Canada is part of what continent?
Canada is part of the continent of North America. The country borders the North Atlantic Ocean on the eastern side and the North Pacific Ocean that lies on the western side. The Arctic Ocean is on the northern border while the US is located towards the southern border of Canada.
The area of North America extends to about 24,709,000 square kilometers (9,540,000 square miles), occupying approximately 4.8% of the earth’s surface. This continent occupies about 16.5% of the total land area of the earth. According to a statistical analysis in July 2008, the population of North America was close to 529 million. The continent ranks third amongst the other continents in the world in terms of area after Asia and Africa. North America is the fourth largest continent after Asia, Africa, and Europe in terms of population.
North America and South America are connected by the sole land connection known as the Isthmus of Panama. The continent of North America is divided primarily into four regions. These are: the Great Plains extending from Gulf of Mexico to the Arctic; the mountainous west encompassing the
Rocky Mountains, California, and Alaska; the Canadian Shield plateau in the northeast and the eastern parts that consists of the coastal areas of the Atlantic seaboard, the Appalachian Mountains, Mexico, and also the Florida peninsula.
The languages that are spoken in North America include English, Spanish, and French. The Anglophone countries or the Anglo – American countries are Canada (where both
English and French are official languages), the United States, and some areas of Caribbean and Belize.
